About Florida Student Power
Our mission is to organize young people to create safe and sustainable schools and communities where black, brown, and other marginalized people can thrive by leveraging collective youth power.
Born out of the 2016 Power Shift Convergence where over 150 young people from across Florida and the south met to discuss an intersectional approach to the climate crisis led by Black Brown & marginalized youth. The Network quickly evolved to respond to the need of youth organizing in Florida. Since then, we have expanded the network to five counties and have led programs through our 501(C3) and 501(C4) entities that prioritizes civic engagement and issue based campaigns.
Job Description
Florida Student Power seeks a highly motivated, talented, and dynamic Executive Director to shape, inspire, and manage the organization’s future in collaboration with a talented staff, a dedicated fiscal sponsor, and a committed Advisory Board. The Executive Director must be able to lead a rapidly growing staff, be a fundraising powerhouse, and provide overall strategic leadership, vision and direction for Florida Student Power.
Core Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
● Cultivate a working team environment that invites and inspires staff and members to develop
high-quality programming;
● Ensure that Florida Student Power has a diverse staff that operates with equitable and inclusive
practices that support and grow the Florida Student Power membership;
● Develop, maintain, and support the Advisory Board and work in collaboration to build and
approve budgets and seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for both
ongoing campaigns and strategy
● Provide supervision, direction, mentoring, and performance management to all staff especially
the Organizing Director, Civic Engagement Coordinator, Communications Coordinator and
Senior Advisor.
● Serve as the primary conduit between the Fiscal Sponsor Leadership Team, Advisory Board,
members, and other organizational stakeholders;
○ Build relationships with the Fiscal Sponsor Leadership team to maintain strong lines of
communications with fiscal sponsors.
○ Actively engage and energize Florida Student Power with the membership, funders, and
Advisory Board.
Fundraising and Finance
● Develop and execute grassroots fundraising strategies to increase funding and manage the
operating budget of Florida Student Power (C3/C4) with the support of the Senior Advisor;
● Cultivate,enhance, and maintain relationships with funders, potential donors and other key
organizational stakeholders;
● Maintain relationships with the Finance Team to receive updates on Actuals and update on
grants received.
● Creates yearly budget in collaboration w/ Organizing Director, Civic Engagement Coordinator, and Development Lead.
Planning and Strategic Vision
● Provide overall strategic leadership, vision, direction and guidance; create issues base
programming for short- and long-term campaigns on local and regional issues impacting youth.
● Supervise the big picture and ensure that the Organizing, Civic Engagement, Communications &
Development plans that are aligned with the priorities of Florida Student Power;
● Track progress of issue base plans through reporting and accountability of goals and
benchmarks.
● Lead the expansion of Florida Student Power Network and build a Five Year Strategic Plan.
● Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
Key Qualifications and Experiences
● Advocacy Organizing – Track record of creating, developing & implementing c3 & c4 electoral and issue campaigns especially in the state of Florida; This typically looks like at least 3 years of campaign management experience but if you feel like this is a fit for you, feel free to apply!
● Nonprofit Organizational Leadership – Significant management experience with supervising professional staff in a fast-paced environment and bonus points if you have experience working with a Board of Advisors (or equivalent) in a collaborative team environment
○ and One year of experience in managing teams..
● Fundraising – Experience fundraising through individual donor cultivation, funder relationships
development, grant writing, etc. and managing a budget of nearly $1,000,000;
● Strong interpersonal skills – Track record of developing and maintaining trusting relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, an ability to meet people where they are, find common ground, and inspire collective action. Patience and the ability to work well with people who have various skill/experience levels.
● Energetic, enthusiastic, and able to occasionally work irregular hours and travel.
Nice to Haves (but not necessary!)
● Prior experience working on a coordinated campaign, independent expenditure, or PAC
● Prior experience working and/or volunteering at an organization with a membership based
model
● Strong relationships with leaders and organizations in the areas of politics, policy, and advocacy in Florida particularly in Tallahassee, Orlando, Tampa and Miami

● Location: The position is based in Florida and we will be prioritize the role being base out of
Miami, Orlando or Tampa
