Essie is Hiring!

Essie is looking for six exceptional people to join their team in 2021!

The following positions are open, and the deadline to apply is January 10th.

We have built a dynamic Black feminist team and work culture at Essie and would love your recommendations of people who might be a good fit. In case you would like to forward this email to people you know but don’t know us, Essie Justice Group is a loving and powerful community of women, gender non-conforming and trans people with incarcerated loved ones. We are a California-based organization focused on decarceration, race, and gender justice advocacy (see our most recent Lives on the Line COVID response campaign and report). And we’re known for our innovative and values-aligned internal policies (see our Black Feminist Institution Building webinar).

Essie is also deeply connected to Black liberation movement work through our coalitions. We are founding members of the National Bail Out collective, members of the Movement for Black Lives Policy Table (instrumental in development of the BREATHE Act), and members of the JusticeLA executive and pretrial teams. Our policy work is grounded in organizing principles and our Because She’s Powerful analysis on mass incarceration’s root causes, ongoing harm, and solution. Our team values are lived daily. We invest heavily in organizational culture and capacity building, through partners like Black Futures Lab and BOLD, where Black organizers at Essie receive additional training. Applications are due January 10th.
